Rocky III Storyline

Rocky Balboa (Stallone) has finally beaten Apollo Creed (Weathers), and feels that he has nothing left to achieve. He plans to retire. Boxing brawler Clubber Lang (Mr. T) becomes the Number 1 Contender, and wants his match with Balboa. Rocky is reluctant at first, but finally agrees to take on Clubber Lang. But things go from bad to worse, where Rocky's manager Micky (Meredith) unfortunately dies. Rocky must now train with his former opponent, Creed. Rocky now not just fighting for the title, but also for the confidence of everyone and especially of all, for Micky.

Rocky III trivia

• 'Mr. T' (qv)'s film debut.
• SPOILER: Of the five Rocky films that feature an official boxing match as the denouement (_Rocky (1976)_ (qv), _Rocky II (1979)_ (qv), _Rocky III (1982)_ (qv), _Rocky IV (1985)_ (qv) and _Rocky Balboa (2006)_ (qv)), the re-match between Rocky and Clubber Lang is the only fight that does not go the maximum number of rounds (15 rounds in I, II, and IV and 10 in Balboa). It is only a three-round fight.
• The ring in which Thunderlips and Rocky fight featured the standard modifications used in professional wrestling; half-inch padding under the canvas, shock absorbers under the plywood and slightly loosened ropes.
• According to an interview given by Mr. T., he attended the movie's premier with his mother. During the scene where he yells lurid remarks at Adrian, his mother turned to him and said "I did not raise you to talk to a lady like that." She then got up and stormed out of the theatre.
• During the making of _Rocky III (1982)_ (qv), a 9ft tall, 1500-pound bronze statue designed by 'A. Thomas Schomberg' (qv) was placed at the top of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Arts. After filming wrapped, 'Sylvester Stallone' (qv) tried to donate the statue to the museum but they said they didn't want it, sparking a huge debate between the Museum and the City's Art Commission about what constituted 'art'. The museum claimed the statue was nothing more than a "movie prop", and didn't want it. Local people were outraged, and the statue was ultimately placed in front of the Wachovia Spectrum in South Philadelphia. It was later returned to the Art Museum for the filming of _Rocky V (1990)_ (qv), after which it was again moved to the front of the Spectrum. Later the statue was put into storage, and then moved to a park at the foot of the famous stairs leading up to the Philadelphia Museum of Arts.
