Christine Storyline

Arnie Cunningham is a typical high school nerd who is picked on, overruled by his parents, and has very few friends. Until he meets Christine, a run-down 1958 Plymouth Fury and buys her. Arnie learns that Christine has a thing for him and devotes his time to restoring her to Mint Condition. But overtime, Arnie begins to change and becomes disconnected with reality and his friends. Arnie's girlfriend Leigh and best friend Dennis find out that Christine's previous owner cared about nothing else when he bought her and find out that Arnie is becoming just like him. The only way they can bring Arnie back to reality is to destroy Christine, But Arnie and Christine are ready to destroy them first and any one else who gets in their way.

Christine goofs

• CONT: SPOILER: The position of Buddy Repperton's body after being run over by Christine.
• FAKE: Small wheels are visible on the bottom of the car Christine hits then flings aside in the Darnell's Garage scene at the end of the movie.
• CONT: After Buddy Repperton has smashed Christine with his friends, the license plate is in place but when Christine has fixed herself, the license plate is gone.
• CONT: Christine has a chrome grill, yet when Dennis runs her over with the caterpillar, the lower section where the license plate is located is painted red.
• CREW: When Christine smashes into the little white car inside Darnell's garage, she gets hooked to the car. Christine backs up trying to disconnect herself from the white car. When the white car finally is released, the momentum of the maneuver sends the white car skidding into other cars. Look carefully and you will see the casters mounted underneath the white car allowing it to easily skid along the floor.

Christine trivia

• To simulate the car regenerating itself, hydraulic pumps were installed on the inside of some of the film's numerous Plymouth Fury "stunt doubles", a mock-up in plastic that looked more like metal on camera than actual metal as it bent and deformed. These pumps were attached to cables, which were in turn attached to the cars' bodywork and when they compressed, they would "suck" the paneling inwards. Footage of the inward crumpling body was then reversed, giving the appearance of the car spontaneously retaking form.
• Screenwriter 'Bill Phillips (I)' (qv) and rocker 'George Thorogood' (qv) filmed a cameo appearance as the junkyard workers who compress Christine and dropped the cube at the end but the sequence was cut because neither one could act very well (as Phillips states in the documentary). It was Phillips who also suggested that they use Thorogood's "Bad To The Bone" as the movie's theme song.
• SPOILER: Pay attention to the background when Arnie first brings Christine to Darnell's Garage. As he's walking back to Dennis's car to ask him to honk his horn, you can see the bulldozer in the background that will be used to destroy Christine.
• One of the stunt Furys used in the film - the one that runs over and kills Moochie - had a rubber front end. The car was destined for the salvage yard and has been restored using parts from the other "stunt" vehicles. The vehicle is now in private hands.
• As a joke, 'Alexandra Paul (I)''s twin sister, 'Caroline Paul' (qv), stood in for her during some scenes, most notably the ride on the bulldozer.
